Children in the Car - Be Extra Cautious

DID YOU KNOW:

Vehicle crashes are a leading cause of death for children between 1 and 13? And that three out of every four car seats are not used correctly?

Tips to play it safe with kids in the car:
  • Use the appropriate car seat for every trip, even when you are just going down the street. The car seat should be the appropriate fit for your child, as well as your car. If children are older, ensure that safety belts are worn.
  • Talk to your kids about the dangers of playing around vehicles and monitor children closely when vehicles are present.
  • Always be conscience of whether you are traveling with your child or not. Accidentally leaving a child in the car can turn into a bad situation fast! Recently, a Veterinarian published a video showing how hot a vehicle can get and how quickly it can get there. See the video here.
Finally, if/when you are involved in a vehicle accident and there is a car seat in your car, make sure you request the responsible driver's insurance company to replace the car seat. Once a car seat has been involved in an accident, it is no longer safe to be used and it will be replaced as part of the accident's claim.
